The large fir tree, about 26 meters high, is illuminated with 80,000 low-energy LED lights and decorated with 800 red and silver Christmas baubles and 60 bows. Its name, #Imagine, is an invitation to look to the future with serenity, aware of the power of imagination and change.
Today’s switching on ceremony has kicked off the citywide illumination project “Christmas of Trees 2021”. The light beams at the base of the tree, which will point to the sky, will indicate, also from a symbolic perspective, the centrality of Piazza Duomo, ideally calling all Milanese people together in their city’s most iconic place.
This tree has been chosen for its ability to embody some core values of the Milan of the future: environmental sustainability and innovation. It is a zero-kilometer tree as it comes from Lombardy (precisely from Cittiglio, in the province of Varese) and ten new trees will be planted to compensate for the cut tree. In addition to this, the quantity of pollution generated during its transportation will decrease substantially thanks to the reduced distance and once the holidays are over, the tree’s timber will be reused for the benefit of all citizens, with the aim of maximising environmental sustainability.
Let the Christmas magic begin – it’s time to imagine #YourFutureChristmas!
